Using gray as main color on walls in new home?
Sharon V asked:
I am renovating 3 bedrooms and a family room, the carpets will be a nice soft medium gray color. I would like to also use a shade of gray on the walls, I want them to be neutral so all my furnishings will pop!!! The bedrooms are on the small side so I would like to use a light to med shade, thinking on something like templeton gray by Benjamin Moore Paint. Any suggestions?

I don’t know how you feel about this, but I think if you used gray on all the walls, it would not only make it smaller, but a little too dark. I would suggest maybe using gray on one or two of the walls. Or maybe VERY light gray, and perhaps one of the walls a darker gray. Just don’t make the paint color match the carpet color too closely. Anyway, just thoughts….and good luck.
a light blue will probably look better with gray carpet. Too much gray can make you feel enclosed.
Small spaces will look bigger if you get a white paint with a hint of blue in it. Almost like a tint instead of a color. Bedrooms will feel more peaceful if you get white with a pink tint. It will look white, but muted with a light pink hue and it makes rooms look bigger clean.
If you’re looking to make your bedrooms look bigger, the general rule of thumb is that the lighter and cooler you go the bigger the room will appear, the darker and warmer you go will make the room look “cozier” and smaller. As far as the gray color goes, I would just make sure it’s a light gray. But the bedrooms don’t all have to be gray as well. I love the look of celedon, or even baby blue. In my house I like the walls to contrast the floors, so I have a dark brown carpet in my bedroom and bright yellow walls. My furniture still stands out, and I actually think that the brown carpet ties in the brown furniture and brown pictures frames. I’m looking into getting dark brown hardwood floors and painting all the walls light contrasting colors. Personally I’m not a fan of too much gray, it looks great when there’s a lot of light in the room, but when it’s cloudy outside it just makes all the rooms look gloomy (I know this because my fiance’s old bedroom had gray carpet gray walls.
Well I’ve put my 2 cents in…good luck with whatever you chose!
Grey is depressing. If you have the carpet already, that is fine. I would not paint the walls grey. Go with pretty pastel colors. A light creamy yellow on the walls accented with reds is what will make the room pop…
Look at other colors besides grey. Shows no imagination. Use pretty window treatments; topper or scarves with blinds look great and let a lot of light in.
Good Luck !
