Isn’t it good to know that MPs have their priorities right?

Yesterday Labour and the Conservatives debated a conservative attempt to stop the use of the public purse for furnishing MPs second homes. The proposal was defeated by 295 votes to 238. Isn’t that an amazing number of MPs in the house? If 533 could turn up and vote on this issue why did only 22 turn up to debate knife crime recently?

Ex Police officer and current MP of Ryedale, John Greenway billed the expenses office for £500 worth of plants for his second home in London in 2004 - 2006 + £3.5K of furnishings, a 55p box of matches and 2 boxes of firlighters at 99p each. He subsequently sold that home for a profit of £280K and the purchaser said the garden was a key selling point of the house. As he has already been deselected for the Ryedale and Thirsk area he will be standing down at the next election should he be required to repay this and the decorating expenses we also paid for that property prior to its sale (£1900) out of his pay-off of £105,000 ? Wouldn’t you think an ex police officer would understand the ’spirit’ of the expenses versus benefit in kind tax avoidance also?
Cool Hal, actually something’s not right in all of this. He divorced his wife and lives in London now with his secretary. His wife has the family home. He left her before the London house was put on the market so in effect the London house was his main home for tax purposes.

I mean, sure she has 40 days of house arrest and she wears a tracking device, and can’t leave her house. But isn’t her house like a luxury place and she can do so much in her house?

I mean, confinement to my own house would not be so bad. Home is the safest place to be. I bet she has cable TV, lots of food, plush furnishings, & obviously a big pool. You call that punishment?
