Fleur! asked:

I am of age to buy alcohol however my husband is not he is only 20. Now if he is with me in lets say, Walmart, will they let me buy beer, wine, etc? I don’t know why not, it’s not like I’m furnishing to him since we live together. I’d just like to know because I’m too scared to get denied or people to look at me like I’m a criminal and I’m sick and tired of dropping him off at home and going to the store.

Lol it would be a surprise to me if they did….I remember when I was little I went with an older family member shopping and they bought beer and no one said anything (not for me of course)…..
And plus they would only ID one of you they would even care about the other, he probably looks 21 anyway… Grace

Yes they will because you’re old enough to buy alcohol.
Im only fourteen, and my parents will take me with them when they buy alcohol.
The only time they wont let you buy alcohol is when you’re a minor (under the age of 21), but having a minor with you to buy alcohol, wine, beer, etc. is fine. The Cake is a Lie!

As long as you buy it and you have your ID with you if they ask for it, then yeah you can. guitar22xkl

It depends on the establishment. I have been places before that wouldn’t let me buy alcohol because I was with someone under 21 and then I’ve been to stores that did. Just to play it safe why don’t you go through the cashier line alone and have your husband wait for you at the exit door or in the car outside. Ms. L

I believe you can. The minor just cant carry the alcohol out of the store or in the store. I’m 24 and my partner is 19 (and its kinda obvious shes under 21) and I buy drinks with her right next to me all the time. Just make sure your husband doesn’t carry it. saramm23

if you are of age or have proper I.D. they will sell you Beer or alcohol. no matter who you are with. but you 2 are too young to be drinking. it will cause alot of problems in the long run. BUT i do say good luck… C_T_W

First of all your husband is not a minor. He is over the age of eighteen therefore he is an adult. However, there is no rule saying you cannot buy alcohol when someone under the age of 21 is present, unless there is reasonable evidence that he is going to be supplied with alcohol.
However, I once stopped by UDF with my step mother who is 23 so she could buy beer for my dad and I got an energy drink. They refused to sell the beer to her because I was present. So, some people will anyway, but there is no law. blue_eyes_baby

Well, i think that it all depends on the clerk and how layed back you react to the situation. Frany809

That depends entirely upon where you live and varies from state to state (and sometimes county to county). Go ask the local cops, they’ll tell you. Eiliat

    Yeah no problem
when i was little i carried the beer out of the store for my dad Derek

  14. Danny says:

    DEPENDS UPON THE STATE.

Every state has DIFFERENT laws regarding the sale of alcohol. Nobody can sit here and say, “yes you can” or “no you cannot” without you even revealing the state in question.

Here’s a good example; in the state of Texas, you can buy alcohol when accompanied by a minor child for which you are the legal guardian. You CANNOT buy alcohol when accompanied by a minor that is not your child. So in Texas, it is illegal for a clerk to sell alcohol to you if your husband who is under age is with you.

Furthermore, in states where the drinking age is 21, a 20 year old IS CALLED A MINOR. The charge is MINOR IN POSSESSION, despite the fact that they’re a legal adult. As far as alcohol is concerned, everyone is a minor until the legal age of possession for your state. A DWI or transporting elicit beverages can still have a 20 year old charged as an adult. The same adult however is called a minor in regard to simple alcohol possession. Danny
